You or the person you live with may be exempt from council tax

To get a "severe mental impairment exemption" you need to ask for or download a form from your local council and get this completed by a medical professional.

You can find your local council’s website here. If you are unsure who your Local Council is, find your local council (Please note: this button takes you to an external website for which Citizens Advice Scotland is not responsible)

If you live with other people who are not exempt then they could be liable for the council tax, but could claim single occupancy discount if they are the only person liable. You may want to continue the process to find out which discounts and reductions the people you live with are eligible for.
